Design Studio 2012_First Year

Architectural design as a medium for ephemeral experiences was explored throughout the semester.
The experiential qualities of ‘space’ were initially examined through the study of various phenomena created by the built form. The drawing itself was to be the focal point of the studio. The naivety of the architectural graphic was to be harnessed in an attempt to represent the utopian ideals we possess.
The drawing inherently displays an understanding of phenomena of ‘space’. Through the analysis of a given site, the studio was then asked to to re-think the given space by designing an insertion, focusing on one or more ephemeral qualities experienced within the architecture. The insertion could be of varying scales and was to become a piece of architectural ‘art’ for people to pass through, evoking a certain experiential quality.
The key to the studio was to gain an understanding of the architectural graphic and various methods of representation.
